Our bodies change a lot as we age. Weight gain and fatigue tend to increase while bone health deteriorates. In women, perimenopause often begins in during the late 30s and estrogen levels continue to decline through the 40s as hormonal levels change. With all of these bodily changes it can be really hard to maintain good health as you age. Medical weight loss programs featuring physician support and lipotropic injections can help you to overcome the burdening bulge of age.

The physical changes that your body undergoes can make losing weight really difficult after the age of 40. While it may have seemed like it was hard enough to follow all of the dieting rules to maintain a trim figure at a younger age, the rules just become stricter as you age. Without some help, it can be nearly impossible to maintain a healthy weight level.

It is time to focus on you.

You’ve undergone a lot in your life before reaching forty—everyone has. For many people, middle age means that they are finished with all of their schooling and have settled into a career. Owning a home and contemplations about an early retirement are on the minds of many forty-somethings. The kids are growing up and moving out, and you may even be in the midst of paying for several college degrees. This is just the stereotype, but there is a lot of stress packed into that typical middle age role!

In order to maintain your health long into your elderly years it is important to take the time now to think about yourself. Here are a few questions you may want to ask yourself:

How are you feeling? Don’t give yourself the polite answer that you would throw-off to a co-worker. Really figure out how you are feeling. Have you felt more tired than usual lately? Are you experiencing any digestion issues or headaches? Is a lingering knee injury starting to really bother you? These are all important things to be aware of, and if you aren’t paying attention to your own health then no one will be.

Are you sleeping well? A lot of middle age men and women begin to develop sleeping problems during their forties and fifties. Insomnia can cause mental distress, fatigue and weight gain. If you notice that you are sleeping much lighter or are having trouble falling asleep at all then be sure to bring that up to your doctor.

Have you really ‘still got it?’ Muscle strength, sex drive and energy levels decline with age—that is just the sad truth. If any of these three health concerns are becoming an issue make sure to talk with your doctor about the changes you are experiencing. Weight training is an incredibly beneficial exercise option as you age. Even using resistance bands and doing push-ups at home every day can help you to stay strong.

You know your body best. You have had plenty of experience getting to know the ins and outs of how you react to different foods and stressors. But remember, you can set the pace of your aging process.

How would you feel if everywhere you sat down to eat there was a mirror placed right in front you, reflecting your every move as you eat your food? It may sound a little crazy but this is actually considered an unconventional trick to help facilitate weight loss. These weight loss solutions are not going to help you in the same way as your lipotropic injections or other medical weight loss plans, but if you feel like having a bit of fun as you progress towards a healthier lifestyle then by all means, give it a try—just check in with Dr. Kerendian first.

Five Silly Weight Loss tricks

1. The Sniff Test – One researcher from the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago (Yes, this is a real foundation) found after testing 3,000 volunteers, those who frequently sniffed their food were less hungry than those who hadn’t given their food the old-fashioned sniff test.

One theory that may explain this unusual weight loss trick is that sniffing your food tricks your brain into thinking you’re really eating, and therefore thwarts overeating which could lead to weight gain. Now, this doesn’t mean you should consistently sniff your food instead of eating it—eating healthily is an important aspect of your weight loss regimen. But, instead of indulging in that big piece of cake after dinner, maybe just have a big sniff and let your stomach rest.

2. The Blue Theory – Have you ever wondered why most fast food restaurants don’t use the color blue that often when it comes to their logos or décor styles? The color blue is said to function as an appetite suppressant, believe it or not. If you want to test out this curious trick, try serving your meals on blue tableware, or wear the color blue while you eat your food. Cover your table with a blue table cloth if you really want to encompass the blue theory. Some studies even show the colors red, yellow and orange encourage eating—no wonder these colors are so often used in restaurant logos!

3. “Le Petit Secret” – This wacky weight loss “secret” is employed by numerous French women. This little tip involves wearing a ribbon around your waist (underneath your clothes) whenever you eat or dine out for dinner. The ribbon is said to function as constant reminder of your stomach. The ribbon will tighten as you eat, which may discourage you from over indulging. So, next time you’re feeling secretive, tie a ribbon around your waist before eating—maybe even make it a blue ribbon for an added weight loss effort.

4. Photo Shoot with Your Food – Some people suggest keeping a journal or food log of everything you eat when you’re trying to lose weight. That may be useful but some people like to photograph the foods they eat in order to help curb their intake. Some nutritionists believe that reviewing a group of pictures you’ve taken of the foods you have eaten may be enough to make you stop and think about what you’re eating, and if it’s even an appropriate time to eat. Even if you are making a conscious effort to eat healthily when taking your pictures, you may be able to catch a slip-up like an excess amount of salad dressing.

5. Mirror, Mirror on the Table – Finally, the odd weight loss trick involving the mirror at the dining table—It’s not quite hocus pocus as one study found eating your food in front of a mirror may curb the amount of food you eat by one-third. Maybe this is because having to stare yourself in the eye while consuming your meals will help to visually remind yourself of the weight loss goals and efforts you’re working towards in the first place.

These tricks may seem a little off the wall–but they’re supposed to be! Now, these tricks may not be a cure-all for weight gain, but at least you can have a good laugh while you try some of them the next time you think you are going to overeat!

Don’t let your dream weight drive you crazy—losing 10 percent of excess body weight will help you lead a happier, healthier life.

We all have an image in our heads of how we’d like ourselves to look, that idealized dream-self we strive to make a reality regardless of its improbability. For most people, weight is a key part of that dream-self—we imagine how things might be if we could only weigh as much as we did as teenagers or college students, torturing ourselves over how far we’ve strayed from the skinnier days of yesteryear.

Those who obsess too much over reaching some lofty cosmetic ideal miss two important points: losing weight is about more than just looking good, and you don’t have to be a stick figure to live a healthy, happy life. The most important benefit to using a procedure like lipotropics to help you lose weight is how drastically it will improve your health—losing just 10 percent of excess body weight will lower your risk of heart disease as well as your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol.

If you obsess over your perfect weight, you won’t be happy until you reach it. Instead, make a goal of just losing that first 10 percent and set yourself up for success and better health while avoiding the frustration caused by shooting for the moon.

Set Point

Every person’s weight is regulated by a group of chemicals, hormones and signals that assist the body in staying within 10 to 20 percent of its natural weight range, known as a “set point.” This can be thought of as your body’s weight equilibrium, and though your genes play a role in determining your set point, it can also change based on habits. The system that regulates your body can be easily overwhelmed by overeating or bad diet and exercise practices, forcing it to adjust to weight gain and raise its set point.

Conversely, positive diet and exercise habits will help to decrease your set point. Though bringing your set point down is tougher than raising it, losing that first 10 percent and keeping it off for at least six months will help your body naturally readjust to a healthier weight.

Manage Your Expectations

Losing 10 percent may not bring you down to your dream weight, but the benefits will be obvious in the way you feel. Getting over that first weight loss hurdle will help you sleep better, increase your energy levels and reduce joint pain, letting you live a happier, healthier life. Instead of setting unattainable weight goals, keep your eyes off the scale and focus more on behavioral goals like eating right, getting regular exercise and thinking positively. Once those behaviors become a part of your normal life, weight loss will come naturally, and health and happiness will too.

Back pain is a common ailment amongst many people. Most of the time, back pain is often associated with specific problems such as an acute herniated disc. An acute herniated disc often causes excessive pressure on nerves in the lower back triggering a great deal of discomfort and pain. However, most other disc conditions are not the cause of pain in a person’s lower back.

People who are suffering from an acute herniated disc or other degenerative disc issues usually undergo treatment that targets only the disc itself. This is one way to tackle pain in the lower back but there could be additional sources of pain that go beyond degenerative disc issues. Most pain in the lower back area is caused from ligament injury or laxity. In order to treat pain stemming from ligament injury, the ligaments themselves must be addressed.

Prolotherapy is a highly effective treatment for chronic back pain. Prolotherapy uses the body’s own healing factor by inducing a natural inflammation. This kind of treatment can be more successful than alternative back pain treatments such as Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy or IDET.

Its effective results are not the only benefit to trying Prolotherapy—it’s a simple procedure and costs less than alternative treatments. If you are someone suffering from chronic back pain, trying prolotherapy in Los Angeles could be your answer to solving your back pain issues once and for all. Prolotherapy has the ability to offer you permanent healing on top of its list of benefits. This treatment could be the last step in putting an end to chronic back pain for good.

Many people that suffer from chronic back pain are severely limited in their ability to move, which makes exercise an increasingly difficult task. However, many studies have shown that exercise can actually help relieve chronic pain, which makes movement an important part of your treatment plan. Before you decide to begin any sort of exercise regimen with chronic pain it is incredibly important that you speak with your physician. For many people, yoga can help enhance relief when used in conjunction with other medical techniques, such as prolotherapy.

According to certain studies, as much as 80% of the adult population in the United States suffers from chronic back pain, making this the fifth most common reason people seek medical attention. Chronic pain refers to a lingering discomfort that lasts longer than six months. For many people, the pain is initially associated with an accident or injury, but lingers long after the initial pain of the injury wears off.

Yoga is a series of movements and breathing activities that uses slow, deliberate movements to stretch muscles and build strength in your upper and lower body. While yoga is not a sufficient form of treatment for chronic pain on its own, it is a good supplement for many people.

Iyengar yoga in particular focuses on precise body alignment and position. This type of movement can help to enhance your posture, which can relieve pressure from certain areas of your back that are experiencing the most pain. Unlike other forms of yoga that take place on the floor with the use of a thin mat, Iyengar yoga uses props such as chairs, bolsters blankets blocks and belts. This makes it much easier for individuals who are suffering from chronic lower back pain to complete the activities during the exercise.

In addition to helping relieve back pain, yoga is also a good tool for stress management and weight control. The benefits of participating in regular activity can improve both your physical and mental health.

Everybody knows that exercise makes you leaner and healthier. It helps you live longer, and makes your muscles stronger. However, many people don’t know that exercise also strengthens the brain. Scientists are learning more about the body-brain connection all the time. Many newer studies have shown that exercise prevents cognitive decline in older adults and that exercise boosts the brain’s connections.

Older people and those in poorer health can boost their brainpower by exercising regularly. Healthy younger people may get less noticeable improvement but can still protect their brain by exercising. Just a small amount of exercise done regularly helps prevent dementia later in life. Everybody can benefit from better connections in the brain that result from higher levels of BDNF.

Scientists used to think BDNF, short for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, was only important for fetuses and young people. Newer studies have found that it’s actually important for everybody. Low BDNF means the brain is less able to repair brain damage, or to learn new things. Just a little exercise increases BDNF in the brain, boosting brainpower and preventing dementia.

Some Southern Californians will read this and get started right away on an exercise regimen. It can be hard to start for many, though. Starting a weight loss program in Beverly Hills could be exactly what’s needed to get started on a healthier body and brain. After getting used to a healthy new routine, the new habits are easy to maintain because you look and feel so much better. Plus, it is a relief having more protection from dementia in later life.

Taking a walk on your treadmill may do more than just enhance your weight loss efforts. According to recent research, exercise can also provide additional benefits such as an immediate improvement in a person’s disposition and mental outlook.

Like many forms of exercise, walking on a treadmill produces endorphins. These endorphins are responsible for the commonly referred to phrase known as a “runner’s high.” These chemicals are sent throughout the body while exercising. They are known to produce a feeling of euphoria, which motivates many people to keep on moving. Endorphins are released by neurotransmitters due to a complex process in the brain. They also produce a natural sedative that diminishes the sensation of pain and can also reduce the symptoms of depression. However, the amount of endorphins released during exercise and their effect on a person is based upon the type of workout and varies widely from one person to another.

In addition to weight loss results, participating in regular exercise can provide a number of benefits, such as:

Improve muscle tone

Improve cardiac status

Lower blood pressure

Decrease body fat

Enhance the immune system

Reduce stress

Improve self-esteem

Increase energy levels

Improve sleep habits

Decrease depression

Delay the aging process

Improve body image

So, while you are engaging in a program for medical weight management with lipotropic injections in Los Angeles, increasing your exercise will not only lead to weight loss but it can also improve your over-all physical and mental health in general.

I am very much into exercising and eating healthy, and I do boot camp types of exercises on almost a daily basis. With a lot of lunges and squats and things like that. These injections from the doctor have allowed me to do these freely without pain. He’s amazing, he’s wonderful, he’s kind, he really cares from his heart. And I would recommend him to anyone who is having any type of pain.

The waistlines of Americans have been on a steady increase over the years. People who have Body Mass Indexes (BMI) above 30 are generally considered to be obese. In 1995, the number of obese Americans stood at 16 percent. However, the value rose to 27 percent by 2012. These increasing rates of obesity have made weight loss diets in Beverly Hills an important aspect of conversation.

People can avoid many complications associated with being obese by eating a healthy diet. They should also burn excessive calories by engaging in increased levels of physical activity. However, when looking for weight loss diets in Beverly Hills, people should consider several guidelines to help them through this journey:

Individuals should disregard products that promise them miracles without physical input. Remember that nothing comes easily. You will have to put in extra effort to be able to lose weight, but there are tools available to help you through the process.

People who have problems with their weight should consult their physicians to find new ways to enhance the weight loss process. Physicians can help them to determine whether dieting alone will suffice or whether they will need to take supplements.

Remember to eat a balanced diet with lots of vitamins. Also keep in mind that you should go for low sugar and sodium diets, and limit your carbohydrate intake between 20 and 60 grams daily.

Individuals should choose their diet plans based on their personalities. Losing weight should not be a painful process, but an enjoyable one. Find a daily activity that you enjoy, and make it part of your regular routine. This may involve walks in the evening with your dog, or waking up early in the morning to swim laps before the kids wake up.

Finally, it is important to know your ideal body weight. Having a solid understanding of where you are, where you should be, and how much weight you have to lose can help you to set realistic weight loss goals.

While it is a painless procedure, the thought of needles often get people a bit squeamish—especially when you are not sure exactly what to expect.

Your first encounter with prolotherapy can be intimidating. While it is a painless procedure, the thought of needles often get people a bit squeamish—especially when you are not sure exactly what to expect. By taking a deep breath and preparing yourself mentally for your prolotherapy appointment you can relax and concentrate on the benefits of the treatment, like the relief from the chronic pain that you are going to experience! And just think, as an alternative to surgical treatment, the needles used with this regenerative medicine really aren’t that intimidating.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you are getting ready for your first appointment for prolotherapy:

Eat a healthy diet. It is a good idea to think of your health holistically and understand that what you eat is going to help your injury. Eat a diet that includes fresh vegetables, organic meats, and fatty acids such as fish, olive oil, nuts and avocadoes. Fat is good for joint lubrication and will make it easier for your joints to move, enhancing the ability of the regenerative medicine to do its work.

Take supplements. Talk to your physician about supplements that can help your body heal, which can also enhance the results of prolotherapy.

Work out more. It is understandable that your injury has you benched at the moment, but if you are able to walk around then it is important that you do so. If not, think of other ways that you can move around. Maybe try going for a swim or do some resistance band training while sitting down. One of the biggest benefits of prolotherapy is that there is no downtime like there is after surgery. Take advantage of this and keep moving!
